Setting unrealistic goals is one of the biggest hindrances to those trying to achieve weight loss. It can cause you to become discouraged, self-loathing and even malnourished too. Listen to my advice: setting the small goals will help you see success and ultimately help you stick with your program.

Mayo Clinic Diet

The body needs carbohydrate to function properly. There are so many new programs popping up every day on the market that it is hard to make a sound decision about which diet to use to lose the extra pounds that you have been waiting to shed. Some of your friends may be on a diet that looks very good in the beginning, they seem to be losing the weight only to come back a few weeks later discourage and gaining all the weight back and some more. The body needs carbohydrate to function properly, if you were to go on a low carb diet you may not have enough energy to keep going. Low carb diets - do they work?

The thing about carbohydrate is that it provides the body energy to be able to operate. Any extra carbohydrate that the body takes will be stored away as fat for future use. Not a good thing if you are on a diet. On the other hand, if you are on a low carb diet, the body will start using the stored carbohydrate, also called glycogen, to use as energy. In that process water is released and you falsely think that you are losing weight.

When you are on a low carb diet and seem to be losing weight at the beginning. In fact, you are only losing water as a result of burning the extra carbohydrate. Going on a low carb diet, in a way gives you the false impression that you are losing weight when in reality you are only losing water. You'd be better off going on a diet where you eat less calorie than you consume. That way you'll be losing real weight, fat and all.

If you combine your diet with exercise, while consuming less calorie than the body needs, your diet will be a success. You can even afford to eat a bit of junk food now and again to keep the interest up and you'll still be doing fine. The point is to eat mostly healthy food, such as fruits and vegetables, whole wheat, grains, salad, green tea and lots of water. Now that you know that the low carb diet don't really work, it is up to know to take action and start losing weight the right way.

The Mayo Clinic Diet is based on a food pyramid that includes fruits and vegetables, starchy carbs, dairy and proteins. Any amount of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, lean protein and fats healthy for the heart can be eaten anytime. Eating foods that have a small quantity of calories in large quantity amounts is how this diet works.
According to the Mayo Clinic diet you can help your heart by bringing down the risk of heart disease, type two diabetes and cancer. By eating a healthy, balanced, nutritious diet you can reach a healthy weight that will produce better health in your body.
The internet website of e-diets is where you can obtain the diet plan for the Mayo Clinic Diet. The site includes tips for eating out, the do’s and dont’s of weight loss, reports and charts of your results, suggestions for daily servings, different ways to have the same meal plans and lifestyles, shopping lists for ingredients, and menus that are personalized to you for each week you are on the diet.
The Mayo Clinic Diet is one in which you have to stick to because it is not restrictive in what you eat. It is a long term way to have a healthy lifestyle without the stress of most diets. All in all the Mayo Clinic diet is a way of living a healthy life.
One anti-oxidant rich food that can be a strong addition for a person using the Mayo Clinic Diet is the Hoodia plant. Hoodia grows wild in the African desert. Natives have used the plant for many generations as a natural health remedy. Hoodia contains many nutrients that are typically absent in the average American diet. The Hoodia can help in avoiding diseases such as Cancer, Gout, and Parkinson’s. Another feature of Hoodia that is important for dieters is that it increases the metabolic rate and improves the ability to rapidly burn unneeded calories. Therefore it can assist any dieter in avoiding cravings and improving their ability to burn fat. A site that offers a trial of the Hoodia supplements is offered at Hoodia Diet Plan [].

Low Carb Diet – Does it Really Work?

Don't lie. When you first heard of the "caveman diet", you scoffed didn't you? Or perhaps you grunted a little. Sure sounded like another fad diet. I personally would've named it Encino Diet with Brendan Fraisier as posterboy to make it more competitive with Atkins, but hey caveman marketing is a bit primitive.

Fortunately for us, this doesn't appear to be a scam. Many patients with autoimmune or autoimmune-like conditions seem to benefit by changing to a diet based on evolutionary principles. No doubt you've heard of some of the most popular ones: Paleo, Primal, Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), GAPS. There are a ton of resources out there on each diet, so I'll focus on the main differences between these 4 most popular diets & delve into success metrics, where available, rather than the details of each diet.

Hey McFly I'm borrowing the DeLorean to take a closer look at these dietary blasts from the past:

By far the most popular one, led by Loren Cordain & Robb Wolf. The focus is on all-natural (i.e. grass fed) animal fats and natural fats (ghee, avocado etc), and low carbs (starchy root vegetables, white rice, and other starches without antinutrients.) The basic tenet is that we're simply not evolved to optimize digestion and absorption of agricultural products.

There are no controlled studies on this diet yet, but lots of >90% success rates reported by various doctors internationally. Dr. Jean Seignalet in France conducted a trial on autoimmune patients, with success being defined as 50% reduction in symptoms, and here are the results:

Rheumatoid arthritis: 200 (sample size), 80% (success rate)

Lupus: 13, 100%

Mark Sisson is the main proponent. Basically the same as Paleo except it allows full-fat dairy. According to Mark's pictures, shirts should also be avoided. Wouldn't mind having that body though!

Chris Kresser is another big proponent of Paleo that has incorporated dairy such as grass-fed butter and kefir into his protocol with much success. He talks about not tolerating more than a teaspoon of kefir at first, but slowly building up to pints a day. I've heard similar stories from ME/CFS patients that benefit from fermented dairy. His theory is that taking probiotics via kefir actually changes your microbiota or gut flora to allow your gut to tolerate dairy.

I couldn't track down any statistics specific to the Primal Diet, but due to its similarity to Paleo I would imagine if you could tolerate dairy, the statistics for Paleo might be a good reference.

This was developed by Sydney Valentine Haas, MD. At first glance it sounds like a low-carb diet, but the basic tenet is actually that carbs feed overgrowth of yeast & bacteria in the gut, so limit both the amount & types of carbs to well-absorbed. The major difference from Paleo: properly-prepared legumes such as beans are allowed, and like Primal, dairy is allowed.

Autism Research Institute's survey found that with 71% of parents noted improvement in their kids from SCD.

"Proponents of the diet claim there is an 80% recovery rate for Crohn's disease and a 95% recovery rate for diverticulitis." -

And most impressive, results of a pilot study done on Irritable Bowel Syndrome:

"Notably, 9 out of 11 patients were able to be managed without anti-TNF therapy, and 100% of the patients had their symptoms reduced." -

Based on the SCD diet, and developed by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. The main difference from the other diets is the focus on

the gut, as opposed to just feeding it foods that are optimally digested & absorbed. Main difference from SCD: emphasis on bone broth and fermented foods, less beans, gradual implementation of dairy casein to tolerance starting from Ghee (which has virtually no lactose).

Because this diet's the newest of the list, statistics are lacking so far. In my personal opinion, based on what we know about leaky gut though, the use of bone broths to provide easily-absorbed nutrition and

the gut en route to building tolerance of fermented products makes this diet especially appealing for severe LGS.

There is far more similarity within these diets than there is different. GAPS was mostly developed as an improvement to SCD, and Primal was mostly developed as an improvement to Paleo. In the end, many practitioners agree that ultimately an elimination diet where you eliminate a food for 30 days and then add one thing in at a time (and monitor how you feel) is the way to figure out which foods and amounts of those food your body reacts to.

Is it healthy? On a low carb diet, you can lose weight consistently, lower your insulin levels, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and stabilize your blood sugar (great for diabetics). “What about fruits and vegetables”, you ask? Since you’ll be eating less of these, it’s important to take a inside look on the side effects to have a low carb – or no carb – diet…
The key message these Low Carb Diets conveys is that carbohydrates promote insulin production, which in turn results in weight gain. Therefore by reducing carbohydrate intake, we will lose weight.
The truth is: by eating a Low Carb diet, you do not provide sufficient carbohydrates to your body for daily function. Therefore it will start burning the stored carbohydrates (glycogen) for energy. When your body starts burning glycogen, water is released. Therefore the drastic initial drop of weight at the beginning is only water you lose as a result of burning glycogen.
Some Low Carb diets are indeed high in fat! Some of these diets promise that you may eat as much meat, butter and cream as you want. There is no way for someone to eat that much fatty food and justify that it is healthy to do so! Numerous well-proven scientific research showed that diets high in fat and saturated fat can increase the risk of heart disease.
In addition, some Low Carb diets such as the Atkins Diet lump all carbohydrate foods together and give it a bad name. For example, the Atkins diet limits carbohydrate intake to just 20g daily at the beginning (vs 130g recommended level by the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine). Most grains, fruits, beans, potatoes, rice, pastas, some vegetables are all excluded from this diet. Fruits and Vegetables especially, are rich in fiber as well as antioxidants such as Vitamin C, carotenoids, flavonoids, etc which are essential in the prevention of heart disease and cancer.
The truth is – in addition to losing water drastically at the beginning, these low-carb diets are often calorie-restricted!!! Followers only eat an average of 1000 – 1400 calories daily; compared to an average intake of 1800 – 2200 calories. To lose 1 lb a week, you only need to eat 500 fewer calories per day than you metabolize. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you eat a high or low carb diet, you will lose weight if you restrict your calories to less than you need. One easy way to lose 500 calories a day without restricting food? Physical exercise. Speak to your registered dietitian – they are able to calculate how much calories you minimally need per day.
There is a Company called “Strip That Fat”, which invented a revolutionary new diet system and eating program that will make you lose weight WITHOUT restricting your diet to “low fat” or “low carb” foods, rather eating the right calories. You actually get to
with the
You need to exercise, but most of you do enough exercise already to be losing weight, you just have not been told about the proper techniques (which we release in full details within this system).
Another cool thing is that Strip That Fat is going to teach you which exercise you can do to actually increase your metabolism, and increase the calories you burn while you are resting.

Constipation Remedy Using Apples and Other Juices

When I was a freshman in college my father had a heart attack. This was in the late 1970’s and bi-pass surgery was a new procedure. The only place in our area that you could have the procedure performed was at the University hospital. This is a teaching hospital and so there are many innovative procedures that are preformed there. The hospital receives patients from

all over the United States so there was a four month waiting list prior to dad’s surgery. He was sent home with medication and a restricted diet. Suddenly my mother was looking for healthy recipes to cook. This was a great change for her because she used a great deal of butter and salt in her cooking, and they ate out in restaurants a great deal. Neither one of my parents had ever given a thought about healthy recipes and fat or salt content in their foods.

The heart attack really frightened my mother. She was determined that dad would regain his strength and be healthier. She became a fanatic at making sure everything she served him was made from healthy recipes. At that time there was not the number of fat alternatives that there are today. The alternatives that were on the market were poor tasting and poor quality.

My older sister tried to tell my mother that she did not need to try elaborate healthy recipes, but instead broil chicken and fish and serve fresh vegetables. The most difficult thing for dad was giving up chocolate as well as the rich desserts that mom made. She made pound cakes that melted in your mouth. She would make several at a time and freeze them. When ever she needed a dessert she would thaw one of the cakes and serve large pieces with fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce. We teased my dad that it was probably a piece of mom’s pound cake that clogged his artery.

During the four months of waiting for the surgery my parents gradually became accustom to their new life style. Mom did find some healthy recipes [http://www.BODY-MIND-WHOLENESS.COM] that tasted quite good. She learned to cook simpler meals and they both learned to make wiser choices when eating out in restaurants. Dad had his surgery and needed to stay in the hospital for a month due to complications. After his hospital stay he had several weeks in a rehab hospital closer to

home. Once he returned home he was able to resume most activities that he did prior to his heart attack. As the years went by

mom found that it was easier to create tasty healthy recipes with the improvement of reduced fat products.

Here are two constipation remedies that you can use for a mild case of constipation and for a chronic case of constipation.
Apple and Pear Juice
If you have a mild case of constipation, you can use this remedy to get results.
Prepare equal amounts of fresh apple and pear juice. Drink this combination when you first wake up and one hour before bedtime.
Juice the pears that are slightly hard. If the pear is ripe, it is best to blend it whole with apple juice to create a thick drink. Using the whole pear will give you additional fiber. Just remove the seeds but do not peel the organic type.
Pears have minerals, vitamins, and chemicals that help to clean out your colon, kidney and to regenerate your blood cells.
Apple Juice and Prune Juice
Here’s a constipation remedy that you can use if you have chronic constipation. In addition to just drinking apple juice, you can accelerate your peristaltic action with prune juice.
Here’s how to do it.
If you have a juicer you can make fresh apple juice and drink 3-4 glasses a day. You can also drink store-bought apple juice but try to get fresh squeezed and not the type that has been flash pasteurized or pasteurized. If you can find fresh apple juice then use flash pasteurized.
Buy your juice in glass containers if possible.
Plastic containers are processed using solvents that stay in the container walls and gradually outgas into the apple juice. This out gassing is more severe when plastic containers are stored in hot places.
To speed up the laxative effects of apple juice, take the following combination first thing in the morning before you have breakfast,
Drink 2-3 cups of prune juice.
After ½ hour, drink one cup of apple juice
Then, 1-hour later drink another cup of apple juice.
I usually buy my prune juice in a bottle and fresh squeeze my apple juice.
Be prepared to head for the bathroom after you drink your prune juice and your first glass of apple juice. You may need to head to the bathroom soon after you drink prune juice, everyone is different. I have used this combination and have recommended it to my clients and have had good results.
Prune juice by itself is good for constipation. It is a safe, gentle and an effective laxative. Drink a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening. Prune juice contain the substance dihydrophenylisatin, which is responsible for the laxative action. Prunes are also high in iron and are a great supplement if you are anemic or low on iron.
If you add prune juice to your diet, do not drink as much of it as you would when you have constipation. Drink ½ glass in the morning and perhaps ½ glass in the evening.

Baby Back Ribs and Pork Chops Recipes

If you expect success with your whole foods dieting resolution then here is a reasonable way to guarantee your expectation. The Roman philosopher Epictetus stated. "First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do". The food wise way to a happier healthier body requires a clear vision. Whole food dieting is just the kind of resolution where you can create a clear path to undisputed success when you rethink, replace and renew you diet.

Re-think -This requires that you have a clear intention of what you want to change and accomplish food wise with whole foods dieting, so that you will not be sucked back into the current of the old familiar unsuccessful habits of food choices.

Replace - Understand that change requires time. Therefore you might have to revise your time so that you can plan and replace what you now do with regards to food. Ask yourself what can I do today to secure a more powerful eating plan? What is the first thing you will do every day to move your whole food dieting to success? Where will you shop for whole foods? What recipes will you add, which ones will you discard? Everyone who ever had success with whole food dieting had to master this analysis of change before final success is attained.

Renew - What positive ways to deal with change do you plan to adopt? What will you do about the stress of change? How will you learn positive and uplifting ways to relax and recharge. These are all facts you can anticipate in your quest for success with whole food dieting.

Facing the problems you might have and becoming aware of what you now do, can help you relinquish attitudes that lead to failure. This assures a major move forward to self growth and success.

Make a list of whole foods that you know from research to be presently lacking in your diet that will ultimately be a choice that leads to success. Then take consistent action to move your eating lifestyle to a whole new successful level.

Up grade your confidences by thinking the highest thought and expect to be totally successful. Pretty soon you will develop a new belief system centered on the idea that 'you are what you eat'. At this 'renew' level you can envision success with a totally new nurturing attitude to yourself.

Open your awareness to the fact that we have all been conditioned by media marketing techniques to believe that our choices for good health are limited. Consider the myth that if you only ask your doctor and take this pill you are totally guaranteed to live happily ever after; or that you can master your health problems in 30 days: or that cooking is a difficult and competitive.

With this re-think, replace and renew technique you will get closer to the truth that good health is a gift you give to yourself, day by day with every opportunity you schedule to EAT. Eating this way gives you the freedom to seek and create the food-wise way to a happier, healthier body. With this pro-active attitude you will be in complete control of the quality of your choices and be protected from health disasters as you age.

This in one of many recipes found from my source of barbecue recipes that include delicious meat and sauce recipes. Here are two of my favorites that will make your mouth water. Does Birmingham 3 Day Cardiac Diet Work?

Anyone who gains weight wants to lose it, but sometimes this can be done only by sticking to a specific plan. Planning your eating habits is vital to losing weight and getting into shape. You have to decide what to eat and what not to eat. There are many diet plans, but for any certain person, only one of them may work. Here are some types of famous diets, and their features, according to medical expert's opinions.

1. The Medifast Diet Plan.

This plan is a about eating small quantities several times daily, five or six small meals instead of the three big meals. This plan involves eating vegetables and fruits, soup and chili, cakes and desserts. Most vegetarians prefer this diet and do not eat any meat at all, but you can eat 5-7 ounces of lean meat per day as well.

2. South Beach Diet Plan.

This plan is suitable for people who want to eat the food they like and see a considerable weight lose in the process. This diet is about the difference between useless and useful carbohydrates. Bad carbohydrates affect both your weight and health.

3. Atkins Diet Plan.

According to this plan, carbohydrates are not advisable. To replace them you have to eat proteins, fruits, and veggies. When you are on this diet, remember you must keep eating many kinds of meat and diary products.

4. The Oprah Diet Plan.

It is not just a diet; it is a way of life. It tells you how to eat and choose activities that benefit your health the most. The plan is to choose specific types and quantities of healthy food, and to find a replacement for all the types of food you used to eat that made you gain weight. This diet tells you to eat only smart food.

5. Master Cleanse Plan.

This plan is a test of determination and patience. Its course of action is to stop eating the normal foods you eat and start eating custom food specially made for diet, like a special-made lemonade drink. It aims to make you lose harmful toxins, and lose weight in as short a period as possible.

6. Water diet.

This is not really a diet but more of a plan. Water can do magic in your battle to lose weight, it helps you to lose fats and toxins from your body. It can help you to get fit and healthy. Just remember that quantity matters, as the more water you drink, the less food you will eat. Two to three liters (8-12 glasses) of water daily will do the trick.

Do you want to lose 10 pounds in just 3 days? Birmingham hospital at Alabama may have the answer for you. The Birmingham 3 day cardiac diet is designed to help patients to lose weight fast without surgery and weight loss pills. In 3 days you may lose as much as 10 pounds! You may have heard about this diet before, as it carries various names, including 3 Day Tuna Diet, Alabama Diet, Tuna Diet and so on. Before you start the Birmingham 3 day cardiac diet, you really need to find out: does this diet work? Will the weight loss be permanent?
Firstly, let us look at the menu of Birmingham 3 day cardiac diet. During the 3 days, you have to follow the menu very strictly to achieve maximum results. The foods are designed based on the concept of chemical breakdown to help you burn fat. Thus, you are not allowed to vary the amounts or make substitution of the menu. After 3 days, you can resume your regular meals. Then, after 4 days of regular meals, start the Birmingham 3 day cardiac diet all over again if you wish to lose more weight.
Now, the problem with this 3 day diet is: it is extremely low in calories. I added the calories and got this number (rough estimation):
Day 1: 1035
Day 2: 1020
Day 3: 1040
In reality, you may lose weight. However, much of your loss may be water and muscle loss instead of fat loss! As soon as you resume your regular meals, you may gain all the weight back. In addition, low calories diet may hurt your metabolism. In addition, you may feel hungry with this diet as it is low in energy and calories. Unless you have rock solid will power, it is unlikely you will stick through the diet. In the following section you may refer to some of the users’ experience.
Dove from Health: “Seriously, anyone thinking of doing this diet, take it from me, don’t do it! You will feel like hell, and probably won’t make it the 3 days.  It is just horrible!”

Salt Lake City Tacothon (Cheat Day on My Diet in Preparation for a Muay Thai Fight)

A proper obesity diet is just another word for a healthy diet.  When looking for an obesity diet, there are a few things to keep in mind.  Most people that are obese have gotten the way they are from eating poorly. And, when I say poorly I don't mean not enough.

So, what exactly is an obesity diet?  Well, it's watching what, when, and how much you are eating.  Don't think starving yourself is the answer, because it's not.  That will only make you sick and weak and when trying to lose weight your body needs to be strong and functioning properly.  My first tip is to always eat breakfast.  It is a proven fact that people who eat breakfast have an easier time losing weight. In addition, try eating five to six smaller meals throughout the day rather than gorging on three huge meals.  This will increase your metabolism making it easier to burn calories.  It's alright to have a cheat meal occasionally, but try to steer clear of fast food and other junk food on a daily basis.  If you can get in the habit of substituting fruits and vegetables in place of some of your junk food, that's a great first step.  Eliminating foods high in sugar  is also very important for an obesity diet.

Trying to fit in some exercise for an obesity diet is essential.  Any kind of cardio exercise is good. A brisk walk, swim, jog, anything to get your heart pumping will help you burn calories.  Make it a point to get some sun and drink plenty of water.  Water helps flush out your system and keeps you hydrated.  Another great way to rid our bodies of these toxins are fiber supplements and body wraps.  Doing these things promotes proper body function and makes losing weight much easier.

If you implement all the things I've went over in this article, you will see results.  Replacing bad habits with good habits is the key.  Stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize and you will look and feel better in no time.

In preparation for a Muay Thai fight, I have been on a diet the past few weeks, and have enjoyed some pretty good results. The beauty of the diet I am on, is that it allows a cheat day once a week. The cheat day actually encourages you to go absolutely bonkers for 14 hours each week.
There is some science behind it, but that is fodder for another post.
I have been craving tacos the past few weeks, so I decided to organize a Tacothon.
The premise behind the Tacothon was to root out the BEST tacos in Salt Lake City.
I invited a few friends along, (Many of them are MMA Fighters or Muay Thai students) and this is what we found:
I wanted to begin the day with ‘Fast Food’ tacos. We have all been there… late at night, hunger strikes… waddya gunna do? There is nothing tastier after a night of drinking than a few tacos… that is if you can get through the drive through without getting into a fist fight with other late night Taco Lovers.
I should point out that we conducted this Tacothon on a Sunday (My designated CHEAT DAY). Taco Time, as well as many other highly referred Taco places, were closed on the Sabbath.
I picked up a party pack from both Taco Bell and Del Taco.
I went to my gym, where I met up with my fellow Tacothaners and ate some tacos.
It was nice to see some of them, as I haven’t been the most social person the past few months as I have been recovering from knee surgery.
We busted open the party packs and gave them a try. The Taco Bell Party pack had 12 tacos in it, and cost just over $15.00. The Del Taco had 10 tacos, but was almost half the price.
The Del Taco tacos were literally ½ the size of Taco Bell’s though and failed miserably on the taste test.
Taco Bell wins by a unanimous decision.
Next, we decided to try out the famous Taco Trucks that so many people talk about on State Street in downtown Salt Lake City.
There are two in the Sears parking lot at 800 South State Street, and two one block South at 900 South State Street.
The first one we visited faces South (Toward 800 South) in the Sears Parking lot. Compared to the ‘Fast Food’ we had just indulged in, it was Heaven on Earth. Very tasty tacos, and cost $1.00 apiece.
The other faces East (Toward State Street). We asked each to serve us their best Taco. This truck recommended the Cabeza, and it did not disappoint. VERY tender meat, and super delicious… VERY GOOD!
The third truck we visited Faces East (Toward State Street) on 900 South. They were just OK. By far, the worst of the four trucks we visited.
The final truck we visited faced South on 900 South. We have a winner. These were some of the tastiest tacos I have ever tasted. Hands down the winner of the Taco Trucks. The name of the truck is El Rey Del Taco. Give them a try.
All of the trucks were consistent on price. They all charged $1.00 per taco, served them on small soft tortillas, and had a similar array of condiments. The El Rey Del Taco also had the best salsa of the four trucks we visited.
If you are hankering for a taco, and don’t want to deal with the hassle of going to a restaurant, check out the Taco Trucks downtown. Try the different trucks for yourself. At a buck a taco, you can’t go wrong.
As I mentioned before, we made our Taco Adventure on Sunday, so many of the places that were recommended to us were not open. As far as I’m concerned, you don’t deserve a mention if you don’t serve on Sunday anyway.
The first restaurant we visited was Taqueria 27. They have two locations, but we visited the downtown location. It was very clean and upscale. Had a very professional wait staff, and a good selection of tacos and drinks.
I had Bloody Maria, which was super good, and the Duck Confit Taco, which was recommended by our waiter. It was a very tasty taco, and I fully understand what all the fuss is about. I really liked this place, and would recommend you give it a try.
The second restaurant we visited didn’t serve alcohol, and was more of a traditional Mexican restaurant. It was named Taqueria El Rey De Oros. There were a lot of families there, and none of them were speaking English. The tacos were, in my opinion the second best tacos we ate at restaurants… very good! I enjoyed a Crema Churro there as well, that was out of this world.
Next we went right up the street to Red Iguana 2. We tried to make a reservation at these restaurants as we had 13 people in our group, and didn’t want to be too much of an imposition on the wait staff. We were told they did not take reservations when we called on the phone.
Upon arriving at Red Iguana 2, we saw a lot of people waiting to get in. When we approached the hostess, we were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait.
We decided it would be worth the wait, so we went to the back of the restaurant to the bar and ordered some drinks. I told the manager what we were doing, and asked if it would be possible to just have 13 tacos brought out to us at the bar, and we wouldn’t make them set a table for all of us. He told us that would be impossible, we would have to wait for our table. There was a large table that was vacant, and I asked him about it. He said it had been reserved by another group. (I thought they didn’t take reservations???)
An hour and a half later, we finally got seated. It took another half an hour before we got our drinks. By that time, most of our group was tired, and had lost the mojo to finish the Tacothon. Red iguana 2 was a complete BUZZ KILL, and frankly their food was average at best. It was bottom of the list as far as tacos went, but some of that might have been a result of the bad taste we all had in our mouths by the way they lied to us about a 20-25 minute wait that ended up being 2 hours, and the fact that we were unable to reserve a table, while others could.
In a complete contrast to Red Iguana 2, allow me to give you my HIGHEST recommendation for El Paisa in West Valley City. Unfortunately, most of our group didn’t make it to El Paisa because of the shitty service we got at Red Iguana, but those who did… LOVED IT.
El Paisa is as authentic Mexican as it gets. You’d better brush up on your Rosetta Stone Spanish classes if you want to come here, and be ready to feel like you just stepped off the plane in Puerto Vallarta.
Live Mexican Music and a real Mexican clown are the first things you will find here. (We left right before the music started, but they were setting up for a show while we were there). Sunday is their big day… unlike the other places we visited.
The wait staff is super friendly and despite the language barrier, really make you feel at home.
The specialty at El Paisa is a Molcaheta Supreme, which is a large ceramic pot filled with onions, bell peppers, beef, chicken, shrimp, and cheese. You make your own tacos out of the contents of the pot, and the table shares the pot.
These were BY FAR the most delicious tacos of the day, and that is coming from a group of people who were pretty much sick of tacos by this point. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is unlike any other Mexican restaurant you will visit in SLC, and you will be glad you paid them a visit. Everything is reasonably priced, and you will not walk out of there hungry.
All in all, the Tacothon was a smashing success. My gut is busting at the seams. I got to spend some time with some old friends, and had a great time. I;m not sure this is an optimal diet for a typical Muay Thai or Mixed Martial Arts training camp, but it was fun. Thanks to all who participated, and happy tacoing!

The Truth About the Banana Diet Revealed – With Tips and Warning

If you're trying to lose weight without exercise, you're not doing yourself any favours.

"But what if I don't like exercise?" I hear you ask. Well, if you're not keen on exercise you are not alone, but there are some things you can do to turn this around.

This article discusses some of the reasons why some of us don't like exercise and what we can do about it to make sure we are more likely to achieve our fitness and weight loss goals.

There are many reasons why some people don't like to exercise. Here are just some of the most common:

Let's explore each of these in turn and list things you can do about them.

This is probably the most common reason that a lot more people don't exercise regularly.

And it's not surprising, because one of the most common mistakes people make when starting a new exercise program is that they employ an exercise intensity that is far too hard.

If our goal is to lose weight, it doesn't matter how quickly we walk or jog 5 kilometres, it just matters that we do walk or jog 5 kilometres.

If you are new to exercise, make it really easy on yourself so that you are happy to continue exercising until it becomes a habit.

Start walking at a slow pace if you have to, and as you get fitter you'll find yourself being able to walk further and faster.

Remember, when it comes to exercising for weight loss, anything is better than nothing and consistency is the key. Do whatever it takes to get yourself exercising everyday or every other day for at least 30 minutes at a time and if that means taking it relatively easy, do it.

This is another very popular reason why people don't like exercise.

But exercise needn't be boring. Here are just a few suggestions to make it more interesting:

It's no fun

This is somewhat related to the above. As well as trying some of the suggestions listed above, remember that exercise is helping you achieve your weight loss goals, making you fitter, stronger, leaner, shapelier and giving you more energy which will help you get the most out of things in life that you do think are fun.

For all of those reasons, exercise doesn't have to be fun.

Having said that, you'll find the fitter you get and the better you get at exercising, the more fun it will become.

It sure does! But only during the first few weeks and guess what?

Again, if this is a major problem for you, take it nice and easy to begin with and build up your intensity levels over time.

You don't need to exercise for hours to get benefits.

If I told you that spending only 2% of your time exercising was enough, would that sound reasonable?

Well, with 24 hours in each day, 30 minutes represents just 2% of each day.

If you can't allocate 2% of each day to exercise, you might have some imbalances in your life and perhaps you should begin questioning your priorities, especially if you really want to lose weight and/or improve your fitness.

If you really can't find 30 minutes a day, remember that anything is better than nothing when it comes to exercise.

Again, this is a question of priorities. What is more important than your health?

OK, some of us are a little too big to go running around the local lake. But most of us can manage a walk, a swim, a short bike ride, some sit ups, push ups or light resistance training.

Remember to start out easy and progress slowly at a pace you can cope with. And always check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program.

If you want to lose weight in the most efficient and effective way, you need to exercise!

Here are some suggestions if you don't know what to do:

They don't like gyms

Gyms are not the only place to exercise.

Why not try exercising:

And remember that all gyms aren't alike. Look around until you find one in your local area that you like.

This reason is pretty common.

If you doctor says you can, you can!

If you think you lack the technical skill, there is plenty of help available.

Like most things in life, exercise can feel awkward at first but you'll find that the more you do, the better you'll get.

Again, this reason is very common.

If you're too embarrassed to exercise, do it in private at home, one on one with a personal trainer or outside in secluded spots.

Once you get better at it and you start to lose weight because of it, your confidence will grow and you'll feel a lot more comfortable exercising around others.

Exercise can hurt a little while you're doing it and for a day or two afterwards your muscles might feel a bit stiff.

Again, the key to minimising this type of pain, and that associated with injuring yourself, is to take it easy in the beginning.

You never know, you may actually end up enjoying the slight pain you feel while exercising and the next day because it is a sign that your body is being, or has been challenged.

Some people just don't like sweating.

That's OK. Try swimming or exercising at a pace that minimises sweat.

Running is not the only exercise around, although it is a very effective one for losing weight and improving your fitness.

If you don't like running because it's too hard, start out very slowly until you build up your fitness.

If you just don't like running full-stop, find something else you do like.

Weight training or any form of resistance training is very beneficial to those of us who want to lose weight because it helps us build lean muscle tissue which burns extra calories 24/7.

If you don't like resistance training because it's hard, take it easy.

If you don't like resistance training because you don't know what to do, get help.

If you don't like resistance training full-stop, do something else.

If you're trying to lose weight without exercise, you're not doing yourself any favours.

"But what if I don't like exercise?" I hear you ask. Well, if you're not keen on exercise you are not alone, but there are some things you can do to turn this around as we've just seen.

Remember, when it comes to exercise it's not important what you do, it's only important that you do.

Banana Diet is one of the easiest ways to lose weight. It is a revolutionary method that originated in Japan. It has been a huge success over there to an extent that there is a scarcity for bananas these days. If you want to lose some of that un wanted weight and burn that damn fat in your body with out doing any sought of exercises then the best possible way is banana diet. It’s a good strategy to follow if you are very lazy to work out. If you are a full time worker and you have very less time then this method of diet is a gift.
Now, let us see how to follow this diet. When your day begins you have to start with eating two bananas for your breakfast followed by intake of water which is at room temperature. You can literally have anything you wish for your lunch and dinner. You can even have the optional light snack at 3 pm if you want to. You should not take any desserts. Your dinner should be completed by 8 pm. You have to sleep early.
How exactly the morning diet works? Evening snacks increases your weight to a great extent; it is one among the largest contributors to accumulate weight. When you stop to eat after 8 pm in the night, it allows your digestive system enough rest and time to burn the calories and that would be easily enough to lose weight to a great extent. Eating desserts is another horrible thing, you accumulate so many calories with these type of foods, stopping these sort of food is quite good and it helps a great deal in losing weight. Many researches, studies and surveys have established the fact that sleep is very important to keep weight under control as it gives a boost to your natural metabolism.
There are various benefits in following the banana diet. It is actually a very safe method as it does not involve any type of medication or other supplements related to weight loss. So you could be free from the side effect problems. Bananas have lot of minerals, nutrients which are good for health and help you in being fit. You have to remember the fact; just being in the recommended weight zone does not mean that you are really fit. Banana helps you with all the proteins and nutrients it has.
There are some warnings you should keep in mind. You have to be care full with your lunch, snack and dinner as bananas does not have any control on that. Bananas just help you to shift your metabolism. If you eat heavy lunches and dinners then you may end up in gaining more weight and getting fatter than you actually were when you started. You have to be careful of the amount of potassium you are accumulating in the day. The recommended amount is 4.7 per day but 2 bananas does help in gaining more than required amount of potassium. Potassium overload has adverse effect s on health. It leads to many health hazards.
Following banana diet with a little exercise can work wonders for you. If you are careful not to have heavy lunches, dinners and snacks, it is more than enough to keep your weight in control and lead a healthy and fit life.

Foods For Camping, No Cooking, No Refrigeration!

When you find out about being pre-diabetic or diabetic, one of the first things you need to learn is about normal blood sugar levels, abnormal blood sugar levels, and how to monitor your blood sugar. The following blood sugar levels chart will make it easy for you.

Glucose, the main source of energy for human cells, is a type of sugar that enters your body whenever you consume carbohydrate foods. Glucose levels are regulated by insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas and released into the bloodstream whenever glucose levels rise.

Measuring your blood glucose has never been easier. There are literally dozens of types of meters that you can use at home or while travelling that allow you to easily and conveniently measure your sugar levels. Your doctor may also recommend a more sophisticated monitoring device that is also easy to use should you need more detailed data than a meter can supply.

The following is a simple blood sugar chart that will give you an idea what values you should be aiming for to maintain good health and avoid dangerous complications due to diabetes:

- Normal glucose range is between 70 and 150mg; these levels are typically lower in the morning, and rise after meals.

- Regardless of when you last ate, a random result of 200 mg/dL or higher means you have diabetes.

- A fasting blood sugar level taken, for example, when you wake up in the morning, should be between 70 and 99 mg/dL If it's 126 mg/dL or higher, you have diabetes.

When monitoring your blood glucose levels, it is crucial that you observe any patterns in your readings, and pay attention to what types of foods, medications or activities trigger undesirable increase or decrease in your readings.

Diabetes is a serious condition can have a devastating effect on the entire body, including eyes, kidneys, hear, nerve, ultimately leading to blindness, kindey failure, amputations, heart disease and stroke. Everyone who has diabetes, whether type 1 or type 2 is at risk, and even people who have pre-diabetes can be affected - so it's never too early to take aggressive preventive measures by changing your lifestyle choices.

As I sit here, I ask myself, do I write an article or a list? Do I list the names or just write an in-depth story about camping foods? Or can I make my list into an article.  I will do both and all, so here we go.    I have been camping many times over the past few years.  And though I do not consider myself a camping expert, I do feel that I have some great helpful hints for campers in the areas of food, hiking, putting up tents, selecting and purchasing tents and other ideas.  So, I will write a series of articles about camping, camping helpful hints, and other related items connected to camping, backpacking, hiking, and campfires, and the rest.   This article that I write here at this moment is totally dedicated to foods.  However, the article is geared to foods that you can take camping when you do not want to start fires, make campfires, or lug any cooking equipment.  Yes, you can camp out without the fire and without the charcoal and without finding firewood.  That does make camping easier for everyone and it lightens your pack.  The reason your pack is lighter is because each day as you eat, you have less in your pack, and you are not carrying matches, starter fluid, charcoal or other related items.   So now that I have explained myself, here is my list:
Foods for a Fire-free camping excursion:

Hope this helps you.   Write with your own suggestions; I would love to hear them.

Everyone wants to get rid of unwanted body flab and look beautiful. In order to get a beach-ready body, women are willing to go to any extent. Weight loss treatments, diet pills, and fad diets have become the norm today. Unfortunately, everyone wants to lose weight fast that too without any pains. Fad diets such as Mediterranean diet and GM diet have all become very popular but these are very extreme diets that almost eliminate certain foods from the diet to attain fast weight loss. One such diet is the high protein, low carb diet. Most people are familiar with high protein diets that are nothing but disguised low carb diets. No matter what you call them, their sole aim is to cut down on carbs from your diet and replace them with foods rich in protein. As such, you are required to choose foods in a way that you get 30% to 50% of the total calories from protein alone.
The Atkins diet is a classic example of a high protein low carb diet though this diet has its own set of pros and cons. To understand them, you need to look at the way high protein diets work. In these diets, carbohydrates are restricted to such an extent that they are reduced to a mere fraction of that found in an average American diet. As a result, the body goes into a metabolic state called as ketosis that forces it to burn its own fat for fuel. Under normal circumstances, your body uses carbohydrates for fuel required for your brain, heart and other vital organs. However, when the body is in ketosis, it gets its energy from ketones, which are tiny carbon fragments formed after the breakdown of fat stores. While in this state, you are bound to feel less hungry and thus consume lesser food.
Once on the high protein, low carb diet, you transform your body from a carbohydrate-burning machine to a fat-burning machine. Thus, instead of consuming lots of carbohydrates and keeping your fat stores on your thighs, hips, and belly intact, you make fat as your primary source of energy. The purported result of such a diet is rapid fat loss and drastic reduction in your size.
Although ketosis does play a major role in weight loss, it also brings along a host of health problems. Your kidney is hugely impacted with a high protein diet. As a result, you may develop kidney disease at a very early age. High protein foods increase the cholesterol levels in your body putting you at a risk of cancer, stroke, and heart disease. You may also develop osteoporosis and kidney stones since the diet causes you to excrete more calcium than usual through the urine. By saying “no” to carbohydrate-containing foods, you also forbid yourself from consuming minerals, fiber, vitamins, and anti-oxidants they contain. This could put you at a risk of developing cancer.
The only way to strike a balance between proteins and carbohydrates and yet attain weight loss is to consume a diet that includes grains, fruits, legumes, and vegetables in the right proportions.
